Actually NO! I’m not sitting here saying I came from nothing, it’s more like I was just going nowhere!
Than and I grew up together in Fresno, California.
As kids, we were always entrepreneurial. One of our first businesses was a gym that we set up in Than’s garage. The funny part is that there is still a guy who sends us a membership check every month!
Hey, money is money right!
Maybe that venue was exactly successful haha, but the point is we knew that in order to achieve success we first had to take action!
Ok, jump ahead, years later I go to college at UC Davis (did I mention I wrestled??? That’s right, watch out now haha).

Ok, sorry got a little distracted there! Anyways after college, I was ready to move to New York City and make it big time.
Want to know what I did with my fancy college degree?
I became a bartender.
Yup, spent my time serving drinks to the people actually MAKING the money I wanted to make!
Months past, a year later I looked around, and I had went absolute nowhere! And from where I stood, it didn’t look like I’d be going anywhere fast, anytime soon.
took a step back, looked at my life and thought about my future.
Right about then I got a call (eerie right?) from my old buddy Than, who’d recently left the NFL after a bad knee injury.
Now, I consider Than Merrill to be one of the smartest people I know, but man had he just made a real bone-head decision!
Although his NFL career had been cut short, he had made a chunk of money and wanted a business to invest in…have his money work for him. Sounds like a smart move right?
So what did he do? He opened a Mexican take out place in New Haven, CT. Oh boy, was he in for a rude awakening!
Than Merrill, Mr. Bigtime, ended up spending 60 hours a week making burritos, incurring tons of headaches and in the end sold the business at a loss!
Now he was back to square one, with less money in his pocket.
So we’re sitting there on the phone having a mini pitty-party for ourselves, and we started to “what-if”…you know, “what if we left our jobs and went into business together Esajian and Merrill at it again”!
Well that what-if quickly turned into a where, when, and how and shortly thereafter we set out to conquer the real estate world, take it by storm! Ummm, but how?
Successful Real Estate Investors weren’t born with the knowledge, skills and abilities that make them exceptional…they learned them…just like you can!
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m not a cliff-jumper!

That first year, my business partner Than and I definitely kept Barnes & Nobles in business!
