Always Keep Networking!!! My wife and I met a couple at a resort in the Dominican Republic who lived outside of Detroit. At the time we were very interested in the Detroit market because we had recently read that Detroit is 'America's Greatest Comeback Story' and we wanted to be a part of it. Two months after we met, we visited them and spent about 2 weeks driving different neighborhoods to learn their market. They introduced us to a realtor and we told him our buying criteria. The day we were leaving to head back to New York, the realtor had called us with a house that met our criteria and had just falling out of contract because the buyers couldn't get financing. We went to the house and made an all-cash offer which the seller accepted. My wife and I were super excited because this was our first rehab deal and it was 650 miles away from where we live. We knew we could make it happen and that's what we did. We took a 752 sq. ft. ranch, ripped the roof off and added a 2nd floor addition. We increased the square footage to 1800 sq. ft. and even built a 2 car detached garage. rn
